Fractional CO₂ Laser for Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are atrophic scars caused by tearing of dermal collagen and elastin fibers due to rapid skin stretching during pregnancy. Fractional CO₂ laser cannot erase stretch marks completely, but it can significantly reduce their visibility.

Working Mechanism

Create controlled micro-injuries The fractional scanner delivers thousands of microscopic thermal columns into the dermis. These discrete micro-ablation zones trigger the skin’s natural wound-healing cascade.
Stimulate neocollagenesis and neoelastin formation The thermal injury activates fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin fibers. New dermal tissue fills the broken fiber defects, thickens the thinned dermis and elevates the depressed stretch mark surface.
Remodel scar tissue It breaks down disorganized, rigid scar matrix within stretch marks, reorganizing fiber structure to smooth out uneven texture and blur the border between marks and normal skin.

Clinical Notes

Red stretch marks (early stage): Better response, usually 3–5 sessions recommended.
White stretch marks (old mature): Severe dermal atrophy. More treatment sessions are required. Improvement is limited; complete removal is not achievable.
Recovery: Tiny crusts form and shed within 5–7 days. Post-treatment erythema may last several weeks.
