Eye Shields for CO₂ Laser Periorbital Treatment
Periorbital and eyelid fractional CO₂ laser resurfacing carries high risk of ocular injury. Standard external laser goggles only protect against scattered light and are not sufficient for eyelid ablation.
Laser eye shields are disposable intraocular protective shields placed directly over the cornea . They provide full physical blockage of CO₂ laser energy to prevent corneal burn and eye damage.
Eye shields are mandatory before any ablative laser treatment on the eyelid and periorbital area.
- Working Principle: These metal shields act like thick smooth metal contact lenses. They block the 10,600 nm CO₂ laser wavelength and prevent laser energy from damaging the cornea, iris and retina.
- Operation Rules: Only trained medical practitioners may insert them. Sterile topical eye drops and preservative-free lubricating gel are required before placement to avoid corneal scratch and discomfort.
-
Laser Eye Shield Sizes
Three sizes available to fit different palpebral fissure sizes for full corneal coverage.
- S size: 24.2mm * 17.7mm: For patients with small palpebral fissures, commonly used for Asian females.
- M size: 26.1mm * 19.2mm: Universal standard size, fits most adult patients.
- L size: 28.7mm * 21.2mm :For patients with large palpebral fissures and bigger eye sockets. Proper size selection ensures full coverage of the cornea and prevents laser leakage around edges which may cause ocular injury.
